How much is Lemonade dog insurance by breed and age?
Lemonade’s own estimates put a young dog at $40 to $60 a month depending on breed, rising to $75 to $130 by age 7. The table uses Lemonade’s breed pages, based on its rates as of October 2025.
| Age | Pit Bull | German Shepherd | Golden Retriever | English Bulldog |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | $40 to $45 | $45 to $50 | $50 to $55 | $55 to $60 |
| 3 | $40 to $45 | $45 to $50 | $50 to $55 | $60 to $65 |
| 5 | $55 to $60 | $60 to $65 | $65 to $70 | $90 to $95 |
| 7 | $75 to $80 | $80 to $85 | $85 to $90 | $125 to $130 |
Two patterns stand out. Prices are flat for the first few years, then climb from about age 4. And the Bulldog more than doubles between age 1 and age 7. Lemonade notes that large breeds cost more because of their size and risk of conditions like hip dysplasia and cancer. Our breed guides for the English Bulldog, Golden Retriever and German Shepherd explain the health risks behind those prices.
How much is Lemonade cat insurance?
Lemonade’s own estimates put cat insurance at about $27 a month on average, as of October 2024. Its Persian cat page, using the 12 months to June 2026, estimates $20 to $25 a month from age 1 to 4, $25 to $30 at age 5 and $30 to $35 at ages 6 and 7.
Lemonade says cats cost less because their vet care is generally cheaper. Our cat insurance guide explains what to look for in a cat policy.
How much does Lemonade cost in my state?

| State | Lemonade estimate per month |
|---|---|
| California | $45 to $49 |
| New York | $40 to $44 |

What changes the price of a Lemonade policy?
Your pet’s species, age, breed and location set the starting point, and your coverage choices do the rest. Lemonade says changing one of them can lower a premium by 10% or 15%.
| Choice | Lemonade’s options | Lower price comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Deductible | $100, $250, $500, $750 | A higher deductible |
| Reimbursement rate | 70%, 80%, 90% | A lower rate |
| Annual limit | $5,000 to $100,000 | A lower limit |
A deductible is what you pay each policy year before Lemonade pays. The reimbursement rate is the share of each covered bill Lemonade pays after that. The annual limit is the most it pays in a year. A cheaper policy means more out of pocket when your pet is sick, so pick the deductible you could pay tomorrow. Our deductible guide shows how to choose.
How much do Lemonade’s add-ons add?
Lemonade’s preventative add-ons cost from $10 to $40 a month on top of the base price, by Lemonade’s own listed starting prices.
| Add-on | Dogs | Cats |
|---|---|---|
| Preventative | From $15/mo | From $10/mo |
| Preventative+ | From $22/mo | From $15/mo |
| Puppy or Kitten Preventative | From $40/mo | From $31/mo |
| Vet Visit Fees, Dental, physical therapy, behavioral | Shown in your quote | Shown in your quote |
A wellness add-on pays set amounts for routine care like checkups and vaccines. The exam fee, what the vet charges just for the visit, is not in the base policy. Forbes Advisor lists the separate Vet Visit Fees add-on as a con, so price your quote with it included.
What discounts does Lemonade offer?
Lemonade offers up to 10% off for bundling, up to 10% for multiple pets and up to 5% for paying annually, according to its pet FAQ.
| Discount | How you get it | Up to |
|---|---|---|
| Bundle | Hold another Lemonade policy, such as renters or home | 10% |
| Multi-pet | Insure more than one dog or cat | 10% |
| Annual payment | Pay the year’s premium in one go | 5% |
The FAQ notes these apply to the base policy and select add-ons, not every package. Forbes Advisor reports the multi-pet discount runs from 5% to 10% depending on your state. If you already rent, a bundle can be the easiest saving. Our guide to renters insurance and pets explains what a renters policy adds.
Does Lemonade get more expensive every year?
Usually, yes. Lemonade’s cost guide says the cost of pet insurance typically increases as your pet ages, because older pets need more care. Its FAQ adds rising vet costs and moving as other reasons, and says you are told before renewal.
Lemonade’s breed estimates show the effect. A Golden Retriever goes from $50 to $55 a month at age 1 to $85 to $90 at age 7. Budget for that rise, not just the first-year price. Our senior dog guide covers what to expect later on.
Bottom line
Lemonade’s own estimates put a typical dog at about $48 a month and a cat at about $27, with a $10 starting price. Breed and age matter most, and prices climb steadily after age 4. Add the exam fee and any wellness package before comparing quotes. For coverage details, read our full Lemonade pet insurance review.
